This drill focuses on developing the interplay between the five-eighth and two centres in a rugby league team, enhancing their ability to create attacking opportunities through coordinated movements and quick play-the-balls. It aims to improve their spatial awareness, communication, and speed of thought on the field. Players will learn to exploit gaps in the defence effectively.
How to Perform
1Set up a 20x20 metre area with cones, divided into four zones with two zones having a 'defensive' player and tackle bags positioned to simulate a defensive line.
2The five-eighth starts in one zone with the two centres in adjacent zones.
3The drill begins with the five-eighth playing a short pass to one of the centres.
4The centre who received the pass then quickly moves towards the defensive line, drawing defenders.
5The five-eighth and the other centre create depth and width, positioning themselves to receive a pass.
